Fred spent 5 years in the Army during World War II attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He worked for Chipman's Department Store in American Fork and was manager of the shoe department both before and after the war.
He joined New York Life in his mid 30's and in 1952 had a wonderful career spanning 50 years up until his death in 2002. He loved his job and excelled at NYLIC. He was a people person and enjoyed meeting and helping people in all walks of life. People just seemed to be drawn to his personality.
He enjoyed BYU sports, especially football and basketball, and attended these sporting events on a regular basis.
He enjoyed fishing and yard work and just being outdoors.
His son, Bruce, became his successor agent in 1977 when he took over his father's clients and has built his own successful career with New York Life. Bruce is currently in his 47th year with NYLIC and hopes to reach 50 years with the company just like his father. This would mean Fred and Bruce combined represented New York Life for 100 years.
