Getting Started & Fit

What happens after I schedule a call?

You'll get a confirmation and a short form to help us prepare. Then we'll meet (virtually or in person) for a 15-30 minute intro conversation to learn about you and share how we work.

What can I expect during our meetings?

Each meeting is structured, collaborative, and tailored to your priorities. We ask good questions, explain things clearly, and help you make confident decisions-one step at a time.

How often will we meet?

Clients in our Foundations path typically meet once a year or every other year, depending on their situation.

Elevate clients meet at least twice a year, with flexibility to meet more often as life and goals evolve.

Do you charge for an initial consult?

No. Our intro call is complimentary, no-pressure, and built to help you decide if we're a good fit.

How do I know if Mountain Sage is right for me?

You'll feel at home here if you're a hands-on professional-like a tradesperson, healthcare worker, or business owner-who wants expert guidance, but doesn't want to DIY your finances.

Planning, Progress
& The Way We Work

What's the difference between Foundations and Elevate?

Think of Foundations like a project-it's focused, tactical, and designed to solve a specific financial need (like insurance, cash flow, or basic investment setup).

Elevate is more like holistic, preventative care-it's an ongoing relationship designed to guide your full financial life: tax planning, retirement, investments, legacy planning, and more.

How will I know if I'm making progress?

We use clear summaries, checklists, and visual reviews to help you stay on track. You'll always know what's been completed, what's ahead, and how it connects to your bigger goals.

Do you tailor the planning to my profession and stage of life?

Yes. Whether you're just starting out, making a career shift, or thinking about succession, we align the strategy to your career, values, and vision.

Do you sell products or earn commissions?

We lead with fee-based planning-especially in our Elevate service-to reduce conflicts of interest and keep your strategy front and center.

In some cases (particularly for Foundations clients), we may receive commissions for helping you implement specific financial tools like insurance or investment products. If that ever comes up, we'll explain it clearly so you can make the decision that's right for you.

How are you different from other financial advisors?

Most financial firms are generalists-they serve everyone, with a one-size-fits-all playbook.

At Mountain Sage, we focus on the unique financial challenges of hands-on professionals in trades, healthcare, and small business ownership.

We understand the pressure of irregular income, long hours, and complex decisions. And we've built a planning process that's structured, strategic, and grounded in your real life-not a generic checklist.

Access & Flexibility

Can we meet virtually? What if I'm not in Utah?

Yes-many of our clients meet with us remotely. Whether you're in Utah, Montana, or beyond, we make it simple to stay connected.

What tools will I use as a client?

You'll get access to a secure online portal to upload documents, track your progress, and review your plan. We'll guide you through it step-by-step.

How do I contact you between meetings?

Email or phone-we're responsive, personal, and here when you need us.
